Konoike Shinden Kaisho (Higashiosaka Municipal Facilities Service Association)

image

Konoike Shinden Kaisho was the management office in charge of shinden, new farmland, developed by the Konoike family, one of the great merchant families of Edo Period Japan. The creation of these shinden in conjunction with the rerouting of the Yamato River greatly increased the productivity of the Kawachi plain. In particular, Kawachi cotton soon brought great prosperity to the area. The buildings are designated National Important Cultural Assets, and provide a sense of daily life in that period.
